It was a very small Herts squad who made the journey into London to take on T.H. Lynx. With two players unavailable, our Libero donned a regular shirt to make our number up to seven!
The Nomads got off to a good start with some decent attacks, but the Lynx team had a strong block who did their best to thwart our efforts. The first half of the set stayed pretty even with both teams trading point for point. At 14 - 11 the Herts team achieved their 3 point cushion, unfortunately the server managed to tear her calf muscle in the process. A quick substitution was made and the team tried to re-focus on their task. Herts serve receive suffered a bit as a result of the interruption and this allowed the Lynx team to serve themselves back into the game at 17 all.
The Herts team raised their game in response to the threat and pushed ahead again. Lynx refused to give up and chased the score again to level at 22 all. Herts came in with a strong server who was taking no prisoners as she served the set out to win 25 -22.
The Lynx team came out for the second set with all guns blazing, the Herts team were slow to respond. The Lynx team established an early 6 point lead, which left the Herts team playing catch up for the whole set. The Nomads woke up and finally fought back, but with only six players there were no options available to the coach. Their efforts brought the score up to 16 - 20, when an awkward server took over for Lynx and outwitted the Herts receive to win 25 -16.
Some strong words and a tactical change of positions brought a very motivated determined Herts team on to play the third set. The Nomads served extremely well and attacked with real aggression. The Lynx side were left stranded wondering what hit them as the Herts team powered through for a 25 - 7 set win.
The Lynx team managed to re-group to take on the fourth set and played with determination. But the Herts team's confidence was high and they were firmly in control of the set. Again excellent serving meant the Nomads established an early lead and at 17 - 9 the Lynx team seemed dead in the water.
However, they fought back really hard and the Nomads had to maintain their determination to keep Lynx at bay. It was a good fight back but the Herts team stayed strong to take the set 25 -21.
