Plymouth Vs Nomads
4th March 2007

Plymouth bt Nomads 3-2 (17-25, 27-25, 25-13, 16-25, 15-12)

Herts Nomads knew they faced tough opposition when they travelled down to Southampton to play Plymouth for the 2 nd time this season.

The Herts team put away their pre – match jitters and played a solid 1 st set, keeping Plymouth on the back foot and taking the set 25 – 17.

Plymouth came out all guns blazing in the 2 nd set and it was point for point for the first few. Then the Herts team hit a problem with serve receive and lost a run of points on two consecutive rotations. This left the Herts team 10 points behind playing catch up.

The Nomads rose to the challenge and fought back hard to level the score at 24 all. At 25 all the Nomads were in with a good chance of taking the set, but Plymouth held their nerve and served well to take the set 27 – 25.

Maybe the disappointment of losing the second set after such a strong come back affected the Herts team, because in the 3 rd they couldn't get started. It was a nightmare from the beginning with the Nomads going 7 points down. The team couldn't claw back the deficit and lost the set 25 – 13.

A change in line up bought renewed vigour to the Herts team and in the 4 th set the Nomads once again took control playing solid volleyball from the beginning to take the set 25 –16.

The fifth set was a real battle point for point as both teams were determined to fight all the way. Nomads manage to get ahead at 10 – 8 but Plymouth wouldn't give up and fought back to level the score at 12 all.

It could have gone either way; Plymouth guarded the net keenly with a substantial block. Nomads struggled to find a way through and Plymouth forged ahead to take the set 15 –12.
