Chiltern were fielding a strong team and the Nomads certainly had their work cut out! The 1 st set saw a real battle with both teams working very hard. The Nomads stayed strong and took the set 25 –21.
Chiltern were even more determined in the 2 nd having come so close in the previous set. Some clever serving put the Nomads under pressure and left the team playing catch up for most of the set. The Herts team battled their way back into the set but Chiltern stayed strong and took the set 25 – 21.
The 3 rd set was point for point all the way, Chiltern defended very well, making it difficult for the Herts team to finish the point. It was a close set but Chiltern just got the edge to take the set 27 – 25.
At 2 sets to 1 down the Herts team were determined to fight back in the 4 th set. A change in line up for the Nomads gave the Chiltern block a bit more to think about and the Herts team were able to finish points more effectively to take the set 25 –21.
Going 5 –1 down in the 5 th was not the start Herts were hoping for! However, after some strong words in the time out the team were inspired to fight back to level the score at 6 all. Herts were playing catch up again at the change of ends being 8 – 6 down. The Nomads didn't settle back into the game and found themselves 6 – 10 down. Another time out and the team re-grouped and fought back hard to level the score at 11 all. Herts stayed strong and at 14 – 12 things were looking good. However, Chiltern were not giving up and fought back with strong serving to level the score at 14 all. Finally the Herts team took their chance and served the set out to win 16 –14.
It was a real gutsy win from the Herts team, surprising most of the spectators who had assumed Chiltern had it won in the earlier stages of the set!
