Nomads Vs Ashcombe Dorking
16th March 2008

Nomads lost to Ashcombe Dorking 3 - 1 (19-25, 25-23, 26-24, 27-25)

The Herts team faced a full formidable squad of players from Ashcombe. The first set saw the Herts team struggle to put the ball away with Ashcombe covering and blocking well. The Nomads battled but lost the set 19-25.

The Nomads started well in the second set and some strong serving helped them achieve a 4 point lead early on. The team built on this success and seemed to be in control, maintaining their lead. However, another dip in concentration towards the end of the set allowed Ashcombe back in to eat away at the Herts lead. The team had to work hard to refocus and managed to finally take the set 25-23.

The third set was again a hard fought contest between the two teams – point for point for much of the set. The Nomads had a slight edge keeping Ashcombe playing catch up for most of the set. At 20-16 the Nomads were looking good to take this set, but again the end of the set wobbles set in and Ashcombe were quick to take the advantage. The Herts team struggled to hang on but Ashcombe fought hard and ended up taking the set 26-24.

The fourth set was again hard fought and again the Nomads necked in front towards the end of the set. At 23-20 the Nomads were again well placed to take the set. But Ashcombe served tough to keep the pressure on the Herts team. The Nomads could not put the ball away and Ashcombe forced their way back into the set. At 24 all the Herts team failed to take points from their serving advantage and Ashcombe battled well to eventually take the set 27-25.

The Herts team were very disappointed especially as they had failed to take chances they had worked so hard to create!
