Herts Nomads faced their old adversaries Plymouth on Saturday 27 th September.
Having beaten Plymouth in the play offs to achieve promotion, Herts were not expecting to play them again this season. However, due to another Division 2 team dropping out of the league at late notice, Plymouth kept their place in the division.
Matches with Plymouth are always a tough battle so both teams were looking forward to a good game.
Unfortunately, due to unexpected problems with referees and line judges on the morning of the match, the Herts team started the match somewhat distracted with their Coach having to line judge!
Consequently, Plymouth took advantage and won the first two sets comfortably 25-21, 25-20 while Herts struggled to concentrate on the task at hand.
In the 3 rd set Herts settled down a bit and started playing more as a team. It was a close set and Herts battled hard determined to pick up everything. Plymouth fought back but Herts won the set 25-22.
The 4 th set saw Herts really settle into their game and the whole team fought with real determination. Plymouth were caught on the hop after their solid start and Herts stayed strong to take the set 27-25.
Nomads were firmly in control in the 5 th set as Plymouth were very demoralised having come so close to taking the match in 3 straight sets. Herts kept their lead and took the final set fairly comfortably 15-12.
It was a great test of character after such a poor start but the team finally came through to enjoy a deserved win.
